Why I Started This Blog
This is my ninth blog entry. I’ve covered some of the basics, and now I feel it’s time to write about the why.
Why did I start blogging? Why now?
Over the past few years, I’ve found myself thinking more and more about photography in general — and more recently, about my photography. I realized at some point that I had quietly embarked on a new, interesting, and exciting journey. It was a smooth and subtle transition from casual interest to something more. I began putting more thought and effort into photography, until it became clear that it was time to level up. So this summer, I did just that. The time had come.
I’m not a professional photographer yet, but I’m also no longer a beginner. What I needed was a space where I could track my progress — and hopefully inspire others who are just getting started with photography. I believe most photographers follow a similar pattern of growth, but the experience of that growth is deeply personal. Two people might go through the same phase, but their perspectives and challenges can be very different. That’s what makes every journey unique — and it’s also why I love following other people’s creative paths. I enjoy reading about their thoughts, struggles, and successes along the way.
I’m part of a creative community founded by the talented Arnulfur Hakonarson — also known as that.icelandic.guy. It’s a space filled with over 80 people from different backgrounds and skill levels. Some are beginners; others are already advanced and incredibly talented. What unites us is our shared passion for photography and videography. It’s a place where we share work, give feedback, and celebrate progress. Watching others grow — some with impressive speed — is not only inspiring but also grounding. It reminds me to stay humble and keep my expectations realistic.
I’ve always enjoyed writing, and blogging gives me the chance to slow down and reflect on different topics. It helps me process my thoughts — and hopefully offers something of value to others as well.
I plan to keep going, and if there’s ever a topic you’d like me to write about, feel free to reach out. I’d love to hear from you.
